INTEGRATED REHABILITATION CENTER FOR ADDICTS (IRCA): 

DRUG-DE-ADDICTION PROGRAMME 

Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Addicts (IRCA), under the Scheme for Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drugs) Abuse–Supported by Ministry of Social justice and Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi.

Under this Programmme Presently, we are running Four Centers – 4 IRCA centers (15-Bedded Drug De-Addiction Treatment-cum-Rehabilitation Centers) with Govt. of India Funding and One newly established Center at Nirmal

4. Nirmal of Nirmal district (Newly established Center )

Objectives of the Programme:

Preventive Education and Awareness Generation: To create awareness and educated the people for Prevention of Alcoholism and substance (Drugs) Abuse on the individual, the family, the work place and society at large.

To provide for the whole range of community based services for the identification, motivation, counseling, de-addiction, after care and rehabilitation for Whole Person Recovery (WPR) of addicts to make a person drug free, crime and gainfully employed.

For this purpose we have organized Rallies with banners and placards, shouting slogans against ill effects of alcoholism and drug abuse. The News Papers and electronic media were requested to give wide publicity. At the same time, we have informed the public that the addicts can visit our IRCA center. In our awareness generation programmes, we are inviting community participation and public cooperation in the reduction of demand for dependence-producing substances In addition to this, our Social Workers at respective centers conducted surveys in their areas and identified addicts.  Our Counselors visited, identified houses and gave counseling to the addicts as well as family members.

With the above canvassing and publicity, the addicts visited Drug De-Addiction Centres. Counselors conduct counseling and identifies whether the patient can be treated as out-patient or in-patient depending on their condition.  In- Patients will be admitted for treatment. The treatment includes Individual Counseling, Group Therapy, Family Therapy etc., Psychological Therapy was given to all drug addicts and are motivated to take treatment without any relapse, stressed the importance of spiritual health and guided them to pray the God

daily morning and evening after Meditation for minimum 20 to 30 minutes. These patients were given Group therapy through simple success stories of sobers, by sharing their own experiences on Drug Addiction. The Counselors have helped them by giving live examples on drug de-addiction and tried to motivate them to change their behavior towards desired direction. Group therapy is one of the most important mode of treatment in addiction. The counselors while discussing about the given facts of addiction, relapse and recovery, have explained issues treated to qualitative sobriety.

Rehabilitation and Follow up actions are organized. Our counselors visited the houses of addicts who have been Rehabilitated /discharged. This follow up activities were undertaken with the view to enquire their health status and to find out the relationship with all other family members and neighbors to support him/her till she/he totally recovers from the addiction stage. Our Counselors and Social Workers together made several visits to observe the addicts in person and gave them suggestions. In addition to this, contacts were established over phone and writing letters. Based on the information received, advises will be given to the addicts or their families.
